Born in Godjam and active in Addis Ababa’s thriving 1970s nightlife, Muluken Mellesse rose to fame as a teenager with his angelic voice and deep musical sensitivity. His collaborations with the Dahlak Band brought a refined, soulful edge to Ethiopian pop – emotional, poetic, and rhythmically intricate.
After 1980, Muluken withdrew from secular music, leaving behind a brief but unforgettable legacy that continues to captivate Ethiopians and collectors worldwide. This reissue restores his rare 1976 album in full, a lost treasure of Ethiopian afrobeat and spiritual soul.
